History

In our flying history, air travel has changed beyond all recognition. Each decade has seen new developments and challenges, which have shaped the path for the future.

During our 95-year history, air travel has changed beyond all recognition. Each decade has seen new developments and challenges, which have shaped the path for the future.

From the glamour of Imperial Airways' flying boats in the late 1930s, the post-war achievements of BEA and BOAC through to the 27 glorious years of supersonic commercial flying with Concorde, we have always been at the forefront of innovation in aviation. Our pioneering spirit has led to numerous industry and world firsts - the first commercial scheduled service, the first commercial jet and supersonic services, the first fully flat business class beds, and in 2013, the first commercial airline in Europe to operate both the Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Our airline's reputation is built on our heritage of excellence in all areas of flying and, in an increasingly competitive market, we continue to strive to put the customer at the heart of our business.
